About Harry   |    E-mail

Harry is the co-leader of the Boys to Men Ministry of the First Baptist Church on Broad. Every third Saturday, Boys to Men teaches 20-30 youth life skills and provides them with healthy meals. For three years, Harry has also served as a mentor to 3 boys with Memphis' CONNECT program.

In his service with the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA), Harry works with more than 60 teens through a year-long job program and manages teens living in transitional housing for homeless families.  The teens have participated in voter turnout for 2008 Presidential Election, and they also have helped create PSAs on the male's role in preventing sexual assualt.

Harry also volunteers at homeless shelters on Thanksgiving and Christmas; lobbies the state and federal government for dollars to create positive programs for at-risk children; speaks to young people at churches, civic groups, special events, and schools across the Shelby County area; and volunteers with a community theatre project that focuses on creating positive self-images for minorities.

Harry also makes it a point to involve his 7-year-old daughter, Gabrielle, in community service. She has helped her father feed the homeless, pull weeds at the Lichterman Nature Center and currently serves as a greeter at his church.
