Issac Hayes IN My Own Words
This weekend was a strange one. Bernie Mack's passing after having pneumonia. And Sunday, a musical genius and huge part of Memphis Music History gone. Issac Hayes was one of those guys that I think we all believed would live forever. As a music lover and fan, my brother Colin would dig Issac samples before it was cool.
I can remember him playing "Walk on Bye" before it was sampled, and "Hung Up On My Baby" from the Tough Guys SOundtrack. Yeah, he has the original wax. Issac was an icon in hip-hop. Go to the Stax museum and look how many times he's been sampled, chopped, and replayed. It's amazing. His music has always had a certain grit and undescribable edge to it that atttacted me to it from a young age. I used to play the look of love in my dorm room at UT Martin
PJZ (pre Jay Z) and my other Football Teammates used to trip. I play
Issac in my car when I'm on my way home from the club on the late night ballin around 240. Issac made the edidome of soundtrack music...My personal soundtrack. We'll Miss you....I'll miss you. But My Issac Mixtape stays in the changer for ya.

R. Kelly Guilty Innocence
Throughout history the legal system of this country has failed some of the biggest cases. The Oj Trial comes to mind, and now the R. Kelly Verdict. American's watched the OJ Trial and how Johnny Cochran out witted the state of California's case against OJ. Everyone knows that he had something to do with it. I truly believe OJ will have to answer for it one day and Karma is real. I happen to like R. Kelly's Music and that's it. I have met him and though he was arrogant and very eccentric. That is R. Kelly on the tape, but being what I do I have to put my personal feeling behind because his music is powerful. It's like working with someone that you don't care for but have to get along with them. I have 3 daughters, and love them like nothing else in the world and couldn't imagine going through the entire situation.
R. Kelly will ultimately get his and believe this. This country is very disheartening sometimes when you know all of the young men locked up for crimes they haven't committed away from their families. This all starts at home! I have made it a point this year to try to get involved more this helping be in the lives of at risk youth and just young men that need someone to talk to. It's hard being a teenager and harder being one in Memphis obviously.
Mothers and Fathers, teach your kids about right and wrong and relationships. Even if yours isn't perfect or you have a weathered past your kids can learn from you. Communication is the key. A lot of the young kids I talk to just want someone to hear them out. Maybe R. Kelly didn't get the attention he needed when he was a teenager. I know...I know....he came from nothing. That's not an excuse and I get tired of hearing that's why people do what they do sometimes. R. Kelly is talented, somewhat of a musical genius. I hope he takes that genius and does some good with it.

I had an opportunity to see Usher at The legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem.
I have seen the Apollo 3 times and this is the first time I have actually been inside for an event. The sign has been replaced with a new digital one. The interior is about the size of the Old Daisy on Beale Street. Smaller than the Orpheum but the ame origianl decor. As many times I've watched Showtime and other live performance you never realize how cameras make things see,. I sat on the 5th row, my wife and I on the aisle end. Ed Lover was in the house, Ciara, and Chris Brown as well to see Usher. Uhers newest group "One Chance"...Ok, new old group. They've been signed for 3 yrs to J Records and havent puit out a CD yet or seen Production Pictures. They started their show with "Looka At Em" that features Fabo which was a decent radio mixshow record in Memphis. They were very well groomed and I was actually impressed with their show choreography etc. They also had a ballad and performed their noew single " U Can't". It's produced by Drumma Boy memphis own, big ups. (hes on fire right now, the Jewezya dn Kanye, Rocko, Ross,) had to day that. They need to get seen becasue thaey can sing.
Usher Hit The Stage
Usher finally hit the stage around 10pm and man I was hungry after eating
3 glasses of white wine. He had a full stage set up, old supernove on left side from CD Cover. Full band, Pyro, Banged up sings for props like the Cd art work "Chances Will BE Taken". He opened up with intro to the the CD and ran through hits from My Way, Confessions with a freestyle about R. Kelly and Kobe. U GOt It Bad. Several new songs whicha majority of the audience weren't familair with. He also did all of the video routines to "You Don't Have To Call" and I though Damn this dude does have hits. Usher was on stage for 90 minutes and if you caught him at Fed Ex Forum for the 1st sell out show their this was the up close version with more new songs. Ohhhhhh Fat Joe was their as well Reppin for the BX. Usher still let loose on "Yeah", the New single "Moving Mountains" and my favorite "Here I Stand". He finished with "Love In The CLub" and did Jeezy's part as well. Nice SHow and on the Phillipe Chos for afer party.
After the Show It's The......
Philipe Chow is in Manhattan, Swanky, provate dining room upstairs and about 20 of us. Benny Madina was their man he's short. Dir. Little X was their as well and alot of radio people. As Usher walked in the room I was walking out and was looking really tired. I'm not big on taking pictures but more of making an impact and having a real conversation. "Where are you going"? Usher said.
It was 1:30 and after 2 Chicken Satte's, A Bunch of Lettuce Wraps, Spring rolls and 3 glasses of Resling and I we were tired. "To Get Some Rest." I replied. "How Often Do You get to New York?" 'ABout Once A Year" I told him. "Than hang out and lets have some drinks". So we did and Usher was right. I had only been up sonce 5:30, on a flight, at a show but I'm a soilder. Usher's wife Tameka was their and she looks better in person than on pix. The night ended up nice.
Saturday and Big Bags
What's a trip to NY and not shopping. I know my way around ok so we walked, and walked, and walked. New Gucci store, Louis Vutton, Tiffanys, the usual. Ate some great food Sat Night, Shouts to Wolfgangs Steak House in Tribecca and J Grand and his wife. B.E.T. here I come. I'm LA Bound and am going to video tape my whole trip. See you for the ride home

2 DEGRESS OF MEMPHIS & TIGER BASKETBALL
Firstly congratulations to the University Of Memphis Tiger Hoop squad. I have to be one of the proudest Memphians of this team and really what it stands for. The funny thing is while I sat and watched Sports Center over, and over again last night to see D Rose double pump to avoid getting fouled and dunk on that Texas player; everyone in Memphis has a story or relationship to the Tiger B Ball program. I have an interesting connection not just as a former D 1 college athlete, but my connection to the program since I was very young. I attended Memphis State Campus school ( back then it was called) and got a chance to meet Vincent Askew, Keith Lee, Bobby Parks, and the other 85 Tigers on a regular basis going to school at Campus. I’m not sure which was involved in the education program but they were at the school regularly. Growing up playing organized sports before Jr High and High School you form a special bond with a team
And the tigers back then with Andre Turner running the point were incredible. I attended Snowden and played for the Greenies 8th and 9thgrade with Chris Garner, Lamarcus Golden ( U of Tenn Bball and Penny’s 1stcousin), Tori Noel ( U of Tenn Fball and Denver Bronco) and several other guys who ended up playing college athletics. I cross paths with these guys on a regular basis and there is a mutual respect for what we do in our adult lives. I have followed what most former Memphis players do at the next level and have had a chance to see a lot of players come and go through the program. They have finally put all of the pieces together for one special year. Derrick Rose and CDR have to be the epitome of taking over a game. I have hung out with those guys in the club and seen their shy, but noticeable demeanor when out. Its great to see that these are just regular college guys that wanna get out, talk to gulz and hang out. I’m proud of these guys and all of the ridicule they have endured all year long from ESPN, FOX, all of the week azz so called experts and Sports Illustrated as well. Now they all want to jump on the band wagon. Memphis hasn’t been to the Final Four since 85. They ahven’t been to the championship since the 70’s and I have all intentions of being there in San Antonio if I can find a flight cheaper than $1,200. I would strongly advise that you too can say that you attended the Final Four in your lifetime. Tiger fans……..don’t worry
for the years to come Memphis seems to have positioned its self as a power house for
B Ball and an offense that any player would want to participate in. If D Rose, CDR and of course Joey’s done feel like we’re stranded again, Don’t worry. Look to the near future of Angel Garcia, maybe Tyreke Evans, and the next Kevin Garnett Devin Ebanks. (maybe on the way). The tigers have arrived but there is just something about these guys that make me feel like I am apart of this team like I did when I was in elementary school. I think the entire city feels the same way. Memphians, we seem to take things persoanlly and are very passionate. UCLA is the Beverly Hills 90210 University, I've been on campus. UNC is UNC, with rich Hoop heritage and prestigous academics. Kansas is the BIG STATE school with the same heritage.
Memphis....is the working class, City University. Players hang in the club, run around with their shirts off and ask me the DJ to play "Fat Joe" Make It Rain again while Shawn Taggart pulls on a Black and Mild. I could never do that while I played football in college, but I'm not mad at him or his soft jumper and 12 points against Texas. U of M Tiger players are just the kids that take that Comm. Class with you with100 other
students. They are Memphis' team, with the guy from BTW and Ridgeway on it. With Willie on it who was incredible in Highschool and in the tournamnet. All of these guys can play and we get very personal about it when the haters hate. Damn right we have
a chip on our shoulder, I'm from Memphis don't you.
T.I. of course plead guilty on yesterday to the weapons charges. Here is what he will
face. Clifford Harris, Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced on March 27, 2009 at which point he will receive a sentence of one year and one day, so long as he meets all of the conditions of his plea agreement, ordered U.S. District Court Judge Charles Pannell, Jr. Under the agreement entered, T.I. will also serve a total of 1500 hours of community service, divided in increments of 1000 hours before his sentencing, and 500 hours after he completes his prison sentence.
He will in part use the sentence as an opportunity to speak to "at-risk youth," encouraging them to obey the law and avoid situations similar to those he has reportedly faced since 1997.
"We believe this resolution is in the public’s interest," said U.S. Attorney David Nahmias following T.I.’s plea, adding that his agreement to speak to young people should prevent and deter some from committing crimes and ruining their own lives.
The Grand Hustle CEO was also fined $100,000. Once he begins his prison sentence sometime next year, T.I. could have his sentence reduced by about two months, or 15 percent of his total sentence, for good behavior.
T.I. remains on house arrest, where he has been since posting a $3 million bond in October 2007. Should he fail to meet the terms of his agreement, he faces a sentence of up to 57 months in prison. Additionally, if Judge Panell feels that the rapper has not accepted responsibility for his actions, he could face an additional 40 months in prison, for a total of 97 months
